Sachio Kano
Sachio Kano, the founder of Asian Rehabilitation Service, passed away at the age of 80 on Wednesday, November 25, in Los Angeles, California. His life’s work was dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through employment opportunities and social services, a vision he made a reality through the establishment of the Asian Rehabilitation Service (ARS) in 1971.
Born on January 11, 1929, in Gunma Prefecture, Japan, Sachio moved to the United States in 1955 to pursue graduate studies at the Art Institute of Chicago. His passion for creativity led him to a dual career in Los Angeles starting in 1962, where he pursued both acting and social work. Over the years, Sachio performed in numerous television commercials, independent films, and live theater productions. However, it was through his work in social services that Sachio made his greatest impact. His founding of ARS created a lasting legacy, providing employment programs and vocational support for people with disabilities and continuing to uplift communities in need.
Sachio’s commitment to both the arts and the empowerment of others through his nonprofit work will forever be remembered, and his dedication to community service has left an enduring mark on all who knew him.
